Obituary of Jacob Skydel

The family of Jacob (Jack) Skydel, son of the late Lottie (Manasevit) and Isadore Skydel, announce his death on January 5, 2019 at the Carolton Convalescent Hospital in Fairfield, CT.  Jack leaves his daughters Amy (Skydel) Pinette and Cheryl Skydel and Amy’s husband David who he considered his son. Also mourning Jack is his longtime companion, Barbara Rosenberg, and her children Mimi Rosenberg and Rose Golden. Zayde will be missed by his grandchildren Eliza and Lillie Pinette, Rebekah Moses, and Josh and Matthew Skydel as well as Julie Rosenberg and Stella Golden. He was pre-deceased by his sister Eleanor (Ellie) and her husband Robert (Bob) Doris. Their daughter Martha was her Uncle Jack’s special niece. Her husband Ted Tirk and sons, Nathan and Eli, as well as Martha’s brother-in-law and Jack’s nephew Dan Rocco and grandnieces Ellie and Sarah Rocco all had a close and loving relationship with their Uncle Jack. Extended family who will also miss Jack include his former wife and mother of his children, Joan Skydel as well as her brother-in-law Eddie Kerzner.  Eddie and his late wife Judi (Joan’s sister) loved Jack like he was their brother and the feeling was mutual. Their children Cari and Bill Meil, Beth and Ian Flesher, and Arlene Kerzner as well as their children and grandchildren in the US, Canada, and Israel will all miss their Uncle Jackie. In addition to his sister-in-law Judi, Jack was pre-deceased by his nephew Mark Kerzner. Jack also leaves his son Seth Skydel and his wife Pam and his niece Beth (Doris) and her husband Michael Moses.

Jack had a large family and many friends in Greater Bridgeport (CT) and beyond and will be missed by all. Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Carolton who cared for Jack once he moved there after his diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease. Everyone there could still get a smile and sometimes even a laugh out of him even on the worst of days.
